Activities: Things to do

If you want to be active there are plenty of things to do.

We recommend walking, photography, bird watching, flower identification, sketching and painting, or practising your yoga. We have some identification books and binoculars available, a telescope to wonder at the night skies and some yoga mats. Many cycle tours and motor cycling enthusiasts stop with us, often for a rest day. We are very proud of our restored Enfields.

A Village 'Walk', led by a local guide, is very popular and you can also go on a half day or full day trip from Cardamom House. You could visit Dindigul flower market and UNESCO world heritage fort. Madurai for the Meenakshi Temple, the Tamukkam Palace and the Gandhi Museum. Kodaikanal, a hill station with fine views across the plains or Palani for the Dandayudhapani Temple. The possibilities are endless!

Relaxation

Relaxation

Cardamom House is THE place to relax:

We are almost at the end of the road, away from noisy loud speakers and bustling towns and surrounded by nature.

The gardens and pool help create a relaxing environment – and you can be energetic and wander around them or go for a swim. The verandahs mean you can sit out and enjoy the passing birds and butterflies, update your journal, read your book or ….. snooze zzz!

Most important, our team is experienced in looking after our guests and creating a homely and relaxed atmosphere, as our many awards indicate.

Travel Responsibly

Going on holiday should always be fun, but if it can be sustainable as well...

Responsible Tourism

Responsible Tourism

As responsible and responsive providers of experiences for tourism, we are guided by our intimate knowledge of our setting and local needs. We recognise that we are in nature, a part of nature and have an impact on nature.

We are sensitive to the ‘feel’ of the place, intent on the stewardship of this environment through sustainable conservation and/ or development. We try to be responsive to its natural cycles and seasons, as we consider the homestay’s environmental and social impact. We contribute to the local economy through sourcing local products, materials and expertise.

We work as a team, listening to ideas and considering the impacts of our homestay and its development on local people, flora and wildlife.

Welcome to Cardamom House – Western comfort in a rural setting.

Welcome to our family homestay which overlooks the monsoon dependent Kamarajar Lake near Athoor, nestling in the unbelievably beautiful foothills of the Western Ghats, close to Sembatti and Dindigul.

Cardamom House was established in 1996 by a retired British physician, who together with a small group of locals designed and supervised the construction of the property. The original team are now Directors of the Indian registered company, and run this top of the range family homestay to very high standards.

Our team is our greatest asset. Team members have been trained ‘in house’ and have worked together for up to 26 years. Several of them have visited the U.K and all speak some English. They are here to welcome you and to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. They are from local villages and knowledgeable about local flora, fauna and traditions.
